Piecing and Pressing
Sew 12 stitches per inch, 1/4” from the edge of the fabric. Mark the throat plate with a piece of tape 1/4” to the right of the place where the needle pierces the fabric. Begin and stop stitching at the cut edges (except for set-in pieces, which will start and stop at the 1/4” seam line) and backstitch.
For hand piecing, begin with a knotted thread and make tight running stitches, backstitching every 4 stitches. Sew on the marked line from point to point, not edge to edge. Secure with 3 small backstitches before cutting the thread.
Press with a dry iron, and with seam allowances toward the darker fabric. Press any abutting seams in opposite directions.
