Adding Straight Borders to Your Quilt

The perfect time to square up a quilt center is when the borders are added to the quilt.

Measure the long sides of the quilt and average the measurements. (For example, if one side measures 75-1/4” and the other side 75-3/4” the average measurement would be 75-1/2”.)  Join the short ends together on the border strips to make a long strip.  Crosscut two strips at the average measurement.  Pin and sew the two strips, easing to fit, to the sides of the quilt.

Measure the top and bottom of the quilt, including the added side borders, and average the measurements.  Crosscut two strips to this average measurement. Pin and sew the two strips, easing to fit, to the top and bottom of the quilt.
