I never grow tired of seeing beautiful quilts...
Dear Quilting Friends,
I love having the opportunity to see beautiful quilts every day. I've been asked if I ever get
tired of looking at quilts, but I can honestly answer, "Never!"
This issue is packed with gorgeous quilts to inspire you for spring. I love the charming
Summer Cottage quilt, in which every cabin is different. Are you looking to make a gift for a
new baby, a bride or a special mom? The Jack and Jill quilts are an adorable pair with sailboats
for boys and pretty petals for girls. There’s Something Blue, a breathtaking wedding quilt on
page 28 that is sure to make some bride very happy. And if you’re looking for a Mother's Day gift,
consider the Teacup quilt with a matching tea cozy.
Of course, there’s so much more. Check out the miniature Ohio Star that measures just 10½"
square and can be easily made from your scraps. If you've admired Grandmother's Flower Garden
quilts but don't have the patience to make one, why not stitch one Nana's Flower Garden block and
embellish it with embroidery? We’ll show you how on page 80.
In our Spotlight on Designers, we introduce you to two fascinating artists. It may be 40 degrees
below zero during winter in Montana, but Jane Quinn talks about how her love of quilting has made l
ife much warmer there. And Julia Cairns, an artist who spent years living and working in Africa,
uses her artwork to share her love of the culture and beauty she experienced during her time in
Botswana. In this issue she shows us her new fabric line, which uses elements of her whimsical
drawings.
And speaking of Africa, I think you will find our Quilting Friends feature heartwarming. Learn
how a group of ladies shares their quilting skills with newfound friends in Kenya and how it's making
a difference in all of their lives.
Not only do I get to look at beautiful quilts every day, but I get to hear how quilting brings
joy to quilters all around the world! Thanks for your recent letters and e-mails of encouragement.
I'm always interested in hearing from you and seeing your latest quilting project.
Keep on quilting and sharing the love of it with others!
Until next time,
