QUILT
Issue #84
Nov/Dec 2007
Another year, another batch of beautiful quilts!
Dear Quilting Friends,
I love the whole process of making a quilt — from beginning to end. Sometimes I get a pattern
in my head and go looking for fabrics, and other times I start with some great prints and then look
to create a design that shows them off. After I have stitched the top, I often stand back and admire
it, but what always amazes me is the "a-ha" moment after it is quilted! And of course, the "ribbon
on the package" is that last step when the raw edges are finally covered with a perfect binding.
Even though some quilts are more challenging than others, I rarely say "never again" when I finish a
project, since most quilts are lots of fun (and the end result is worth the effort!). Yesterday,
I received a new collection of fabrics in the mail and I can hardly wait to spend some time planning
my next design! Isn't this the same with the end of each year? We may look back and say we're glad we
got through that one, but I hope most of you have had a good year and look forward to the next.
This issue is packed full with wonderful fabric collections, so take a little time to see what's new
in the world of fabric and start dreaming about your next quilt. There are two outstanding designer
profiles, one featuring Jodi Barrows and the other with Amy Butler. For a heartwarming experience,
turn to page 88 and read all about the American Hero Quilts project. As for inspiring quilt patterns,
there are so many to pick from! On page 46 is a Crazy Quilt project to show off pictures of family
and friends. Need a gift for a little boy? Check out page 42 for an adorable Building Blocks quilt.
Our cover quilt, Scrappy Christmas Blooms, is a stash project to use some of your favorite Christmas
prints.
My wish for you is that your holidays are a blessing and that your new year is filled with great quilt
projects!
Until next time,
