Adobe Reader

Troubleshooting Hints from Gloria, aka RagLady, one of our subscribers

Re: PDF files..... which are becoming the lifeblood of the online cyber-quilting community.
Recommendations for Printing:

  1. For PC Users: If you have a problem downloading aka opening the PDF file online to the screen – then Right Click Save Target as...... into a folder on your computer hard drive or a floppy or CD. Then open up Adobe Reader, locate the saved pattern and open it from within the Reader program. (You still may not be able to download the patterns...we are working on this problem and hope to have it solved soon. In the meantime you can print as many patters as you like right from the website.)

  2. Also... be sure that the version of Adobe Reader is capable of "reading" the pattern you are trying to open. If a pattern is created in 5.0, you will not be able to open it with a Reader version less than 5.0..... The patterns on the QUILT Magazine site are Adobe Reader 5.0 so you will need to download the latest free version of the reader.

  3. More Trouble Shooting Hints:

  4. Go to the internet via Explorer for your browser. If you are an AOL subscriber and if you use the AOL browswer you will not be able to access or print Acrobat.pdf files.

  5. Have you downloaded the Acrobat reader to your computer. If you have not already downloaded the Acrobat reader here is a link that takes you to the Acrobat page for a FREE download of the reader only. with this free reader you can read ALL Acrobat.pdf files, but you cannot create them. If you want to create files a person needs the full program. Since you are only reading and printing, the free Acrobat reader is all you need. You will need version 5.0 or later to open the files.

  6. Open your Acrobat Reader program before you try to open the pattern you want to print. Once the Acrobat Reader is open, then open the pattern pdf file.

  7. What is the size of your computer screen? Last week, one of our quilters discovered that she had set her preferences so that her screen appeared "oversize". When she down sized it to "normal" she was able to access and print the patterns.

  8. If the above suggestions don't work, contact your server and see if there are any other special needs for their system.
