QUILT Magazine – April/May 2011
Dear friends,
Recently, I was moved by the image of a weary father’s hands on the shoulders of his wayward son in Rembrandt’s “Prodigal Son.” The protective feelings he generated in the details of the hands reminded me of my two grandmothers’ hands, the ring given to me from one, and the clicking sounds the other’s ring made against her needle as she crocheted a family tablecloth. These memories resonate the way the stitches in quilts and the hands that make them do, and we hope the loving details will move generations to come.
With this April/May issue, we especially want to honor moms with projects that include flowers, baskets and even one to stir memories of great-grandmother’s Blue Willow plates. It’s that time of the year for weddings, so fall in love with a Double Ring quilt in a honeymoon setting. Also, warmly welcome a new baby with a play quilt that’s perfect for tummy time.
Learn about Kaffe Fassett’s color secret to his vivacious quilts and be inspired by designer Kathy Davis’s joyful creations. Also, see our Last Stitch…a beautiful tribute to the women who have loved us. So enjoy this season of honoring mom, weddings and new beginnings.
I hope you’ll find this issue filled with 25 patterns you can’t wait to make!
