QUILT, Issue #104 – October/November 2009
Scraps Too Good To Toss!
Dear Quilting Friends,
Leftovers! I enjoy making a delicious meal, but even better is getting to enjoy the meal again! What a treat to open the refrigerator and pull out those tasty morsels from the day before. Think about the days after Thanksgiving: The turkey and trimmings that remain make great sandwiches, soups and salads!
The same goes for quilt making. It’s exciting to pick out a coordinating group of fabrics to make a great project, but what added fun to dig into your stash for a yummy mix of leftover scraps. The results of a scrap quilt can be absolutely beautiful—check out our cover quilt for this inviting fall issue – Shades of Autumn. Also, see how the “Sew Thrifty” quilters make an easy scrap project that uses up strings, strips and chunks of fabrics that are just too good to toss!
This issue is bursting with 17 inspiring quilt, decoration and gift ideas for the upcoming months. There are fall projects, including a pumpkin patch quilt and autumn mother/child aprons, and a couple of Christmas quilts for a jump-start on the holidays. And speaking of the season of giving, we have once again compiled a wish list of thoughtful gift ideas for our quilters and their quilting friends.
Be enthused by the words of our featured designers as you learn what inspires them in their imaginative thinking. Kaye England and Patricia Bravo both overflow with creativity, and each shares a project that displays some of their latest fabric designs.

The backdrop of historic Fort Lewis Lodge in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley fortlewislodge.com enhances our autumn issue’s cozy look. The outdoor scenes and comfortable room settings remind us to relax and enjoy each day. Wishing you a refreshing season of change as you page through this issue filled with a bounty of exciting projects!
