QUILT, Issue #101 – June/July 2009
Dear Quilting Friends,
Our flag cover quilt waves to us to celebrate America’s birthday with its broad stripes and bright stars. Gatherings for 4th of July picnics and enjoying vacations are reflected in an issue packed with patriotic projects as well as relaxing quilt patterns. To give our hot weather issue a cool summer look, photography took place at the lovely Urchin 5 on the sandy shores of Hilton Head, South Carolina (visit www.hiltonheadvacation.com).
There are 16 great patterns in this special issue. Stars of the Heartland and Oh My Scrappy Stars…are two amazing star quilts! Everyone loves a parade and so do elephants. Sea Friends is a critter beach mat appliquéd in sunny batiks and Watercolor is a refreshing palette of brights. A western quilt called Rootin’ Tootin’ Cowboy is an adorable kid’s project. And no summer issue would be complete without florals in garden settings and there are 5 pretty quilts to pick from!

Read about Ricky Tims as he reveals the secrets to his brillant quilting and Bonnie Sullivan as she tells how a love for folk art turned into a fabric designing career. There’s a fun quilt lesson that teaches how to go easy on the curves. And our Last Stitch honors a very special person: Abraham Lincoln and his 200th birthday!
So quilting friends, enjoy your summer, celebrating all the good things that you love and appreciate. And many thanks, too, for your kind support as we enter into QUILT Magazine’s 30th year of quilting inspiration!
Debbie
