QUILT – Aug/Sept 2011
Dear friends,
What a refreshing month it has been. I’m usually busy at my office desk, and I can easily lose touch with the everyday world of quilting. But this last month I’ve had some wonderful chances to work with children and teens, and even a chance to visit a local quilt guild. What a treat to see fabrics and quilts through their eyes! They have brought a new energy to my work through their joy and creative
excitement.
The same is true with the designers within these pages. It’s fun to see what one designer does with a collection of bug prints and another from bright dots. What do you do with a fabric brimming with cups and mugs? …Of course, stitch some chic placemats and coasters! There’s even a flea market-style utility quilt, sewn from new fabrics but with a vintage look. All together there are 23 exciting projects for you to make.
Learn what energizes Ty Pennington of “Extreme Makeover” fame; he has now ventured into the world of designing quilting and home décor fabrics, with trendy results. You can also see what New York City interior designers are up to in their spare time as they recycle textile samples into quilted art and how this is helping others.
Here’s hoping that some of your relaxed summer days will be spent sewing a couple of our fun-filled and inspiring quilt projects.
