Quilt Almanac 2010, Issue #109

A Treasury of Quilts

Dear Quilting Friends,

How boring it would be without special occasions and the holidays to celebrate the changing of the seasons. In this 2010 issue of Quilt Almanac you will find projects and ideas to keep you busy all year long. From early spring wildflowers in Virginia Bluebells, to celebrating the graduation of a high school senior with The Perfect Gift, you are going to find plenty of reasons to be inspired to sew something wonderful. Are you looking for a way to say “I Love You” to someone special?  Consider an endearingly youthful quilt, Heartfelt Love, or a more passionate pattern, Viva La Romance.

For those who like to wave the red, white and blue, sew the All American Beauty, our stars and stripes flag quilt. And nature lovers are going to be thrilled to spot the wildlife in Whitetail Valley. Do you know of some babies that could use a cuddle quilt? Twice as Nice is a cute pair of boy and girl flannels.

There’s a beautiful string-pieced Christmas Coverlet made from vintage prints and the cozy appliquéd Winterberry Wreath quilt that’s perfect for those chilly nights. Take a ride down memory lane with a sweet collection of the storied past of aprons, and for an inside look at the role that quilts have played in the life of artist Jim Shore. Don’t miss our showcase of the latest novelty print collections, sure to inspire your next sewing project. Finally, if you are traveling this year, take a detour to Idaho and Wyoming for a fun “Tracks Along the Trail” Shop Hop and experience some good old western quilting!

Take a few moments to savor and digest all the great ideas in this special issue. Quilt Almanac is sure to be a treasury that will inspire you to sew all year long!

Are you sure that is the correct size template for the Hourglass Spools quilt on pg 64? My blocks came out much smaller?

    Sharon,

You are right! I am so sorry for the error in the template! Thanks for keeping us on our toes. I will post the correct template to the “Oops” section of our website.

The cutting directions are wrong for the All American Beauty on page 45. The stripe section is almost an inch larger than the star section.

    Carla,

When sewn together the strip section measures 61″ (includes side seam allowances).

In Step #4, after adding the 60-1/2″ cream/tan plaid strip to the bottom of the star panel, it states to “adjust the stripe seams as necessary” to match the bottom of the star panel. (Taking up the extra 1/2″).

    I hope this helps.

    Keep Quilting!
