QUILT #120 – Feb/Mar 2011
Growing in Appreciation
We purchased our first home years ago in the dead of winter. With the early signs of spring, came dandelions—and I furiously set out to dig them up! Noticing that my neighbor’s lawn was weed free, I feared that my hardy batch would blow seeds over to their beautiful yard. But as the years progressed and we had our children and grandchildren, I’ve changed. Little fistfuls of those yellow bouquets of love are a reminder that not everything is as I first viewed it.
I have also matured in my appreciation of quilts. Traditional designs are still my very favorite, but I’ve also grown to enjoy the bright and wild ones. It’s fun to meet quilters and to hear what’s behind their creative projects. This issue is filled with great quilts and inspiring stories, from Skip Around the Block, a quilt with a crazy twist, to entering a Secret Passage, an invitation to a place of beauty and rest. There’s an adorable Bear Buddies quilt for baby; and for little girls—a cute Play Date doll set. There’s even a paper-pieced Sweetheart Postcard to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a personal message of friendship or love.
You’ll enjoy hearing the story of how quilting has changed the lives of a mother/daughter duo. And see some incredible science-inspired artwork from quilters who share their stitches to promote healing and good thoughts.
Check out our Last Stitch and you’ll understand why I picked this quilt. When I saw it at a recent quilt show, I couldn’t help but smile!
Hope you enjoy this issue!
