QUILT #115 – Aug/Sept 2010

Why quilt?

Dear Quilting Friends,

I’m sure you can add even more to this list. Most of us don’t need a good reason at all, we just can’t help ourselves! I’m delighted to share the latest issue of QUILT Magazine with you because I know our bright, fun patterns will inspire you even more!

Since we are still enjoying some of those last lazy days of summer, you’re going to love Feelin’ Tropical, a fish quilt, complete with crazy button eyes. Butterfly Inn is another sunny project that doubles as a pillow—a clever “quillow” design. And Dragonflies & Snails is an adorable appliqué made up of squiggly critters from fussy-cut fabric.

There are 20 patterns in all, so you’ll find plenty to pick from, whether it’s for baby, beach or bed. A special “carryall” section features a tote, beach bag and purse in just the style for the busy gal! And Spinning Dots is as fun to stitch as its name suggests.

Whatever your personal reason for quilting is, we hope you’ll get excited about your next project as you thumb through these pages.

I am looking for the Birdeye view quilt pattern and I think it was in the Aug/Sept 2010 quilt magazine. Is this correct?

You are correct! A bird’s-eye view was patterned in the Aug/Sept issue of quilt. But unfortunately, that issue is sold out. I will send you a copy of the pattern via email.

I am making the Urban Tote by Stephanie Brandenburg from the August/Sept 2010 #115 issue of Quilt. I have it all cut out and ready to sew, but I cannot find what seam allowance is used for this tote. Is it the standard quilt 1/4″ or is it 1/2″ or 5/8″?

  • QUILT Magazine says:

    Posted February 27, 2012 at 10:09 am

Use a 1/4″ seam allowance for the tote.

I am making the feeling tropical fish quilt. A friend shared the pattern with me, but not the template! I made one…am not sure it is accurate as I haven’t actually sewn the blocks together. Does the template have the placement of the eye? And is there a template for the eye or the bubbles. I am machine appliqueing on the eye rather than using buttons. I would think buttons would be uncomforable to lie on in a bed. I love the pattern! Thanks for great patterns!

I’ve been looking for the dots and circle quilt ever since I saw it back in 2010. When I went back to purchase the magazine a little later, it was no longer available. I’ve been kicking myself ever since. I’ve told my mom about it and she suggested to look online. Why didn’t I think of that?
Is there any way I could get a copy of that magazine or at least the pattern for that quilt? I want to make it for baby #2!
