QUILT – August/September 2013

Dear Friends,

Just when it seems there can’t possibly be anything new, I’m excited to see more original, dramatic quilts by creative designers. We are thrilled to introduce you to one such designer, Pippa Armbrester, a young quilter with talent to spare! I’m sure you’ll agree she’s one to watch.

We’ve selected fresh, new quilts for boys and girls, throw quilts and bed quilts for everybody, and table toppers and runners that would make special gifts (it’s never too early to think about the holidays). There are various techniques, whether you favor traditional piecing, appliqué by hand or machine, or stitching on foundations. If you’ve never attempted foundation piecing, try this easy technique now and stitch up our cover quilt. Let us know what you’re up to, we love to see your quilts!

Be sure to read our new Ask the Experts column. We asked our key contributors the hot-topic question, “Do you pre-wash your fabric?” See what they have to say. I’ve always had a firm opinion about the subject. Do you pre-wash?

Happy stitching!

Debra
