I know that spring is the traditional season of new beginnings, but to me, fall has always seemed like a fresh start. Children go back to school, clubs and groups reconvene, and the long, lazy summer shifts into shorter, more regimented fall days. Though I’m not in school any longer, when autumn rolls around I’m always inspired to shift into “project mode” and learn something new.
If you feel like I do, this issue has plenty of projects to get you started. Celebrate the season with our cover quilt, Follow the Arrows, on page 26, Fall Finery leaf placemats on page 42, or a small sunflower quilt on page 48. Get ready for trick or treaters with Halloween Spooktacular (page 38), and check out quiltmag.com for the coordinating candy bag. And don’t forget one of my favorites: Sew some quick stuffed fruits, veggies, and flowers to decorate your table all season long (page 56).

And, if you’re looking ahead to the holidays, we have some fantastic gift ideas. Try two sweet kids’ quilts: Playtime All-Star and Adorable Critters or an easy-to-assemble tote you can make in an afternoon using your favorite large-print fabrics. Fall is in the air…get quilting!
