Sampler Quilts
Issue #69
Like most quilters, my first was a sampler quilt. I took a class at a local quilt shop and our
teacher planned for all of us to make an identical quilt. I was rebellious! I made the assigned
blocks, but in my own colors. And when it came to sashings, setting and borders, I ignored her
direction altogether.
That's what is so unique about sampler quilts. You can make one just like one you have seen and
loved, or you can put together your own collection of favorite blocks into a setting you like and
have a sampler like none other.
We have patterns for over 100 sampler quilt blocks for you to make. They are either 6" or 12"
in size. There are rotary cutting directions for most of them and a pattern pullout section for
the paper-pieced blocks and applique accents. Make a sampler exactly as you see it or pick and
choose the blocks you like best, then find a setting and be creative.
Color is important! If you see a sampler you want to make but the colors are not your choice,
the browse through these pages and choose a color scheme that appeals to you. Changing color
changes the look of the quilt and makes it your own
After you put in the last stitch get out your digital camera and take a snapshot. We want to see
