Rhythm in Blues

By: Vin Mickelson

Knoxville, TN

After my daughter Susan, announced her engagement in the summer of 2011, I saw a pattern in Quilt Magazine August/September 2011, page 89, ‘Rhythm in Blues’ that I knew would be perfect for her wedding quilt. I had never made a quilt before, but I was determined to do this for her.

Every place I traveled for the next several months, I searched for a quilt shop and bought at least 1/3 yard of a blue batik. When I had more than enough fabric, I began the cutting and piecing. I soon realized I would never machine quilt it in time, I have never machine quilted, so I found Julayne Jelle of JJ’s Longarm Machine Quilting in my city, Madison, Wisconsin who very kindly took my project in hand and machine quilted it after we picked a pantograph pattern. I then sewed my first binding to the amazingly large quilt and had it done before their wedding.

Thank you for providing this pattern in your magazine.
