Artist Statement:

“I was a marine biology student in college. There is a huge variety of life in a tidal pool, an entire world, each creature dependent on the other. This world changes daily with the coming and going of the tides…it’s a fragile ecosystem, easily damaged by nature and man.”

Collaged, fused, machine quilted, hand embroidered

Artist Statement:

“The central theme at the heart of Living the Seasons is stated in two hand-embroidered lines of poetry on the front of the quilt: ‘Breathe in the beauty and radiance of each season. Honor the cycles of life with love, patience, and gratitude.’ The piece is a reflection on the seasons and on my personal life.”

“Anywhere you go in California, whether on the coast or in the desert, you will see this beautiful plant growing. You will see it in the wild or cultivated in gardens and in pots. And it is a medicinal plant always welcome in the kitchen where I burn myself cooking. I would like to pay tribute to this beautiful, hard working and very, very aloe vera plant.”
