This Little Piggy Goes to Market

”This little piggy goes to Market, this little piggy stays home…” When I say this toe-wiggling rhyme to my 7-month-old son, he doesn’t realize that next week I really am going to market…Quilt Market, that is!

Next weekend is the fabric industry show in Houston: Fall International Quilt Market. It’s where all the fabric companies, pattern designers, sewing/quilting machine manufacturers and anyone else related to the quilting industry comes to launch their new products. I’ll be there, along with the rest of our Quilt and Quick Quilts staff, looking for the latest and greatest new fabrics, patterns, and products to share with you, our readers.

To me, this show is like my birthday and Christmas, all rolled into one. Three straight days of looking at fabrics, quilts, and more! Our staff visits all the fabric companies to preview their new collections, choosing what we’d like to showcase in the magazines and checking out the latest trends. It’s like walking through the world’s largest quilt store!

The icing on the cake is wandering through the gallery section of the show. Themed exhibits feature quilts from all over the world. These quilts are true works of art, made by some incredibly talented quilters. Between the fabrics and the gallery, I come home from this show excited at what new things we can feature in the magazine and inspired to start a new quilt project!

Stay tuned to the blog after the show for some sneak peeks of what you might see in an upcoming issue of QUILT or Quick Quilts!

I made my first quilt when I graduated from college and realized that I needed a hobby to fill all those hours that used to be dedicated to homework! Eleven years later, I'm completely addicted to quilting and thrilled that my day job as the managing editor for Quilt, Simple Quilts & Sewing and Quilt Almanac allows me to "play" with quilts and the friendly world of quilters!
