The Most Unusual Place…

Tuesday night was Stitch N’ Pitch at the Milwaukee Brewers game in Miller Park. I’d heard just a little bit about this event before…you can buy tickets for a special section at the stadium and knit during the game with fellow yarn lovers. It is (in my opinion) a clever marketing technique to get more women to baseball games, as well as to raise awareness of some pretty neat needle arts.

I’m a big baseball fan (Brewers fan, in particular, since I grew up in Milwaukee), so I’m not sure I’d handle the multi-tasking well, as I prefer to watch every pitch. And…I have no idea how to knit. My grandma has taught me several times to do a basic crochet chain stitch, but that’s as far as my yarn skills go.

However, through the wonders of Facebook, I learned last night that Stitch N’ Pitch can also encompass other arts. Patched Works, a great quilt shop in Milwaukee, had a table at the game and was demonstrating paper piecing! How cool is that?!

That got me thinking…a Major League baseball game is not your typical quilting location. What other unique spots have you pulled out the needle and thread (or sewing machine!) in?

I wish I had a great story to share here—the best I can come up with is sewing a binding on in the car. Not very exciting. But I’m sure that some of you readers out there have better stories. Let’s hear them! Share the most unique place you’ve quilted either in the comment section below or on Facebook. We’ll randomly pick one person who comments and send them a pack of fat quarters.

p.s. And for any other Brewers’ fans out there…they did win the game! Perhaps Stitch N’ Pitch is a lucky event and should happen more often!

At a car show in Pigeon Forge, Tn. I bought a inverter, took our battery pack, plugged that to the inverter, plugged my sewing machine to the battery pack and was able to sew for 5 1/2 hours before the battery pack had to be charged. I liked that show very much!

I quilt in the car all the time too. I like to do hand work in Dr offices while waiting for appt and during guild mtgs when I am not busy taking pictures. My quilt buddy and I set up our Machines in the Hotel when we travel to Trade shows. That’s how we finished our Sylvia’s Bridal Sampler in 9 months.

The most unusual place I’ve quilted was in a caboose. My mom had an early 1900′s vintage caboose gutted and remodeled into a cute little vacation “cottage” complete with bathroom and kitchen. The living room area had a day bed and a little table, where I set up my Singer Featherweight and pieced a quilt.
