Quilts aren’t the only things that get passed down…

So I realize Halloween was last week, but I’d rather share late than never! One of the things I like best about handmade objects is that they are more meaningful than store-bought ones. That goes for quilts, clothing, and…costumes!

This particular Halloween costume, worn by my older son last week, is 28 years old and going strong. My mom made tiger and leopard costumes for my sister and me when we were young. The costumes were later borrowed by cousins, and then put away for grandchildren. It’s in pretty good shape for its age, and I love the connection it has to my sister, and to my mom. (And, as an added bonus, I didn’t have to make a costume!)

Watch for a leopard-tiger brother combo in two or three more years…

I made my first quilt when I graduated from college and realized that I needed a hobby to fill all those hours that used to be dedicated to homework! Eleven years later, I'm completely addicted to quilting and thrilled that my day job as the managing editor for Quilt, Simple Quilts & Sewing and Quilt Almanac allows me to "play" with quilts and the friendly world of quilters!

I LOVE the costume! And it makes me feel like my pack-rat tendencies, i.e. keeping all the Halloween costumes I made for my daughter, won’t go to waste. I can’t wait (ok, maybe I can wait a few more years, at least until she is out of college, settled, married….) to see grandchildren in the same costumes.

And boy can you see the resemblance between you and your son! Both absolutely adorable!
