Quilt ‘Sweat Shop’
Twice each year my sewing room becomes a ‘sweat shop’ of sorts as we work through a number of new quilts. It’s all in preparation for Quilt Market — in the Spring and the Fall each year. The timing is always tight.
We receive the new fabric – for the new quilts – only a few weeks before each show. The cutting and stitching time is short so we can get them to the fabulous long-arm quilters, back, bound, photographed, patterns printed, packed, and shipped in time to reach Market. WHEW!
Prior to the arrival of the fabric, I’m working on the new designs — both mine, and those of the other designers who work with us. I have their sketches, and ‘paint’ them with the new fabric in Photoshop. Then, I write detailed instructions, illustrate them, and send each new pattern off for professional proof reading before we stitch. We use the pattern when making the quilts – one more step in the accuracy process.
This Spring the new collection is a gorgeous Blue version of the already successful Roses design I’ve created with Maywood Studio. We added two new Split Stripes, and new coordinates, too.
Back to the ‘sweat shop’. WHAT FUN we have while stitching. Visiting, stitching, laughing, sharing . . . . . . some folks might call this ‘work’ . . . .not us!
