QUILT Magazine Asks…

What has been your most recent quilting “adventure”, “challenge” or “idea”?

“LOL.  I was just making mitered borders and it seems that the 4th miter ALWAYS wants to misbehave.  Maybe it’s like the horse that smells water and heads for the barn…I’m almost finished and I’m trying to get it done?

One thing I always do when mitering is to sew the mitered seams using a very long stitch – it’s easy to ‘un-sew and re-sew’ if it’s not a 45” degree angle.  After making sure it’s correct, I go back and re-sew using a standard length stitch.

About the Author: Leigh Headington

I purchased my first quilt book in the late 70’s and dreamed of the day when I had time to make one of those lovely creations for my own family. It was not until 2001 that I found ‘time’ to pursue that dream and have been hooked ever since. When I retired from IBM in 2004, I got involved in a quilting group that encouraged (or should I say demanded) thinking outside the box; I quickly found that I loved designing. My background in mathematics and mechanical engineering were a great foundation for playing with designs and are probably the reason I prefer the balance of symmetrical patterns. My style of design is very eclectic – I love fun quilts just as much as I do more traditional patterns. Designing quilts enables me to express myself uniquely and provides a wonderful outlet for creative thinking. www.thesweetteagirls.com

It has been my great privilege to participate in the small quilt group with Leigh. I always feel challenged, sometimes stressed, but that group of ladies is too special to adequately describe. We all love the work and each other after several years of sharing this quilting bug.
