QUILT Loves the Outer Banks!

Debbie and I spent last week doing a photo shoot at Sea Spray, a beautiful oceanfront house in North Carolina’s Outer Banks. There’s nothing like the beach as a great background for photos! Joined by our photographer, Kelli, our stylist, Sera, and Jenn, the styling assistant, we spent four beautiful days at hard at work.

Besides choosing fabric lines to showcase and working on quilt ideas with designers, photo shoots are the most creative part of our job as editors. It’s fun, but it’s also challenging hard work. We brainstorm with the stylist and photographer to find the best setting for each quilt, as well as the right props to make each one sparkle. It’s amazing how a different drape of a quilt or the addition of a vase of coordinating fresh flowers can transform a photo setting from nice to wow!

Here’s our team hard at work:

Sera arranges the quilt on a lawn chair, pool side.

Kelli works between the clouds and bright sunlight to find the perfect shot.

The result: a great shot! (This one was taken by me, so it doesn't have that "professional" touch...watch for the real shot in the Apr/May issue of QUILT.)

I made my first quilt when I graduated from college and realized that I needed a hobby to fill all those hours that used to be dedicated to homework! Eleven years later, I'm completely addicted to quilting and thrilled that my day job as the managing editor for Quilt, Simple Quilts & Sewing and Quilt Almanac allows me to "play" with quilts and the friendly world of quilters!

    Lisa,

Excellent pics! Thanks for blogging about the session as we just received a very nice note from Deb.

Is there any way we might be able to leave a link to this home just in case a quilter might be interested in booking a vacation?

Thanks again as we certainly appreciate the opportunity.
