Quilt Covered Pews

I really enjoy seeing quilts in unexpected places. On a recent Sunday morning, I walked into church and was tickled to see row after row of pews covered in quilts. The quilting group at Fox Point Lutheran Church—the Piecemakers—meets once a month to make quilts for several charitable organizations. They were ready to send off the past year’s finished pieces, and had draped all 93 over pews, in part so the congregation could see their work, and in part for the quilts to receive a blessing before going off to those in need.

Ninety-three—that’s an impressive number, isn’t it? A group of about ten ladies made these quilts, which are for the most part rows of 10” squares, then backed and tied. And equally impressive is the fact that they were made completely with donated fabric. Donations came from people’s stashes, as well as rummage sale finds. Sixty quilts are going to Lutheran World Relief, and the remaining 33 are being distributed locally in the Milwaukee area. What a wonderful labor of love!

The picture speaks well to the beauty of so many beautiful quilts ready to be distributed to someone who is in need. What a wonderful ministry of love and how heartwarming for the quilters to imagine helping just one person whose life needs uplifting. Thanks for sharing this inspiring story!
