Oh Baby!

I know I promised that my next blog would include pictures of all the wonderful quilts in the Gallery from Quilt Market, but I am too excited about this to wait any longer to write about it!

I am currently six months pregnant with my husband’s and my first child. We’re eagerly anticipating the baby’s arrival: this weekend, we purchased a crib and a dresser. Of course, you know what that means…it’s baby quilt making time! We chose not to find out the baby’s sex, so the room will be more neutral than not.

I have spent the last six months keeping my eyes peeled for the ”perfect” nursery fabric. Going gender neutral definitely limits my options, because there are some wonderful fabrics out there specifically for little girls or little boys. However, at Quilt Market, I found a fabric collection that spoke to me: Back Porch Bouquet by Bate and Taylor.

The color scheme is….(drumroll, please): teal and mocha. I’ve got some zoo-animal themed ideas in mind for the quilt and some wall art, and my mom has volunteered (or been coerced?) into making the curtains and crib bumpers. Next up is a trip to the paint store to find the perfect pale teal for the walls.

I had the pleasure of meeting the designers of the Back Porch Bouquet collection, Janet Bate and Jody Taylor, at Maywood’s booth at Market. I told them that I was planning to do my baby’s nursery out of their fabric (about 30 seconds after the fabric called out to me). Imagine my surprise when, a few short weeks later, this showed up at my front door!

Janet and Jody had made me a quilt for the baby room! What a wonderful gift! Thank you ladies! The baby’s room is empty right now, awaiting a few home repairs, but the quilt is in the room, both for inspiration and as a promise of a completed nursery to come. I’ll keep you posted as I make the quilt; right now the design is floating around in my head…I can become an appliqué expert in 2 months, right?!?!
