Last Minute Quilting Gifts
I gave up on my best intentions of getting some quilting done for gift-giving this year. When I hadn’t started by early December, it was probably unrealistic to think it was going to happen, especially when I was headed out of town for a television taping that I’m not even completely ready for. I have a new book manuscript due within a couple of weeks too. ‘Tis the season, I guess. Too much to do in way too little time!
But I’m disappointed because last year I made a quilted wall hanging for my daughter and she loved it. So I was hoping to be able to come up with something similar. If you haven’t tried your hand at printing photos onto fabric to create “memory” quilts, I strongly suggest you give it a try. It’s so much easier than I thought it would be or I would have tried it a lot sooner.
For Katie’s, I collected favorite photos of her with my parents and scanned them and then printed them onto the paper backed fabric sheets you can find in your local quilt shop. Then I created a quilt block around each fabric photo. I assembled the blocks into a wall hanging using fabrics in her favorite colors. It’s like a hanging scrapbook page of some of her favorite memories of times spent with her grandparents who had both recently passed away.
This is a really easy personalized project to accomplish in a fairly short amount of time. And, as if a quilt isn’t a wonderful gift already, think about how much more loved it would be with the recipient’s memories scattered all over it!
