I Wear Many Hats in the Quilt World
Hello and welcome to my new Blog. I’ll tell you a bit about myself…I live in central New Jersey (most people know “exits” on the New Jersey Turnpike or the Garden State Parkway – I’m halfway in between Exit 98 on the Parkway and Exit 8 on the Turnpike). I reside with my husband, Allan (who helps me long arm quilt and is President of the State Quilt Guild of New Jersey), my daughter, Sarah (an accomplished long arm quilter in her own right) and our 2 year old Golden Retriever, Amber Lynn.
I wear many hats in the quilt world, the newest being an author with my business partner, Merry May. Merry is also blogging here. Merry and I co-authored the “Insiders Guide to Quilting Careers” (Quiltwoman.com). We also hostess quilting cruises out of the New York area, hostess our own getaway weekend which is affectionately known as “Bed Breakfast & Quilt), and serve as marketing consultants/pattern designers for Elizabeth’s Studio, LLC. We will also be writing some articles for Quilt Magazine, which will be debuting in an upcoming issue. In addition to the things that we do together, we each have our individual areas in which we work – mine being teaching and long arm quilting.
When I’m not quilting (which is rare these days), I enjoy watching NCIS, any of the CSI series, Star Trek and John Wayne westerns. I read the Stephanie Plum series of novels, Star Trek and CSI books as well as Jackie Collins. I look forward to a yearly vacation cruise (or two if I’m lucky) to anywhere WARM.
Sarah and I are packing our bags to head out to the Quilters Heritage Celebration in Lancaster, PA, where I will be teaching my New York Beauty workshop and my Margarita Madness machine quilting workshop. Unfortunately, we cannot serve Margaritas during the workshop! I first attended QHC in 1994. I went with my friend, Stacey. I was absolutely amazed at how many quilters there were all decked out in their wearable art finery! Little did I know that 15 years later, I would be teaching there! You never know where you will be lead or what doors will open for you. Sarah has been going since she was 6 years old, and has been making Rita Barber (the show promoter) a little gift every year for many years now. This year its a bag she made from the Charm Party Tote pattern.
