Checking in….
After an unbelievably busy teaching schedule this Spring, my husband and I decided to “get outta Dodge” for a few days and take a short cruise up to Canada. It ended up being foggy for 2 out of the 4 days, but it was relaxing nonetheless. I’ve been trying to play catch up working on the long arm quilts that have been accumulating since April!!
In June, I received a notice from the National Quilting Association that I was the recipient of the 2009 Certified Teacher of the Year Award. I was totally thrilled and honored to receive this award.
My daughter, and quilting partner, Sarah, graduated from high school this year, so I am trying to mentally prepare to be an “empty nester” come September. My husband helps out when he can cutting kits and sorting handouts. So, it’ll be me and Amber (our golden retriever) working from home all day – though my vocabulary is limited with her (cookie, piddle, no, sit, give me back my socks), she is wonderful company!
Merry and I are getting excited…our first Sew Thrifty pattern will be in the next issue!! We have some beauties lined up for everyone. I work mostly in batiks and have tons of batik scraps. I really enjoy seeing the quilts come to life using the many different fabrics.
I’m working on a future Sew Thrifty quilt using “connector squares”. The block came to me in one of my “lightbulb moments”. I’m having fun sorting through my bins and coordinating the colors. I usually long arm in the morning, run around in the afternoon, and then around 4-ish I head down to work again. There’s always a “CSI” or an “NCIS” repeat on one of the channels, so I’m very happy with a show, cup of coffee, my batiks and my Bernina. Amber has a quilt in the studio where she lays and keeps me company.
Guess I better get off to work!!!
Happy stitching!
