A Summer Look in the Dead of Winter

Dear Friends:

I think it is always fun to look behind the scenes to see what takes place in a movie or play.  Everything looks so well rehearsed and under control when the curtain rises, but a peek back stage and in the dressing rooms reveals the clutter of props and a crew busy at work.

I thought you might want to see a photo of our photography team at our most recent session at Hilton Head, South Carolina.  We were shooting the June/July and Aug/Sept issues of QUILT and the summer issue of Quick Quilts.  So… wanting to create a summer look … the quilts were photographed at the beach.  Several quilts got special shots near the waters edge, so members of the crew carried quilts, props and camera equipment down to the shoreline.  This took place the beginning of February and it was so cold (and windy too!) that the quilts came in handy as we used them to keep warm!  Anyway, I’m very pleased with how the photography turned out. The quilt photos look like they were shot in the heat of summer….despite the fact that we were chilled to the bone!

About the Author: Deb Hearn

QUILT Editor-in-Chief I have enjoyed quilting for over 25 years, ever since the day I stopped by a friend's house and saw a quilt on every bed! I was so inspired, that I went home and started a Grandmother's Fan for our daughter. As soon as the quilt was finished, our three sons were waiting in line for a quilt of their own! My latest adventure in the quilting world is my position as Editor-in-Chief of QUILT Magazine, a job that is more like play than work ...with inspiring quilts and friendly conversations with quilters almost every day!
